Emergency Procedures
The Sorrento building is equipped with:
  • Fire extinguishers – two (2) located on each floor, one on the north end and one on the
    south end.
  • Announcement speakers for fire evacuation are located on each floor and in each unit.
  • Individual unit smoke alarms sound only within that unit.
  • Smoke detectors located in the hallways of each floor sound a building fire evacuation
    announcement.

In the event of a fire in the building:
  • Call 911
  • The speakers on each floor and in each unit will sound an alarm that there is a fire
emergency and the hallway strobe lights will flash.  You will be instructed to vacate the
    building.
  • Proceed to the stairway and walk down to the ground level.  Do not use the elevators.
  • Exit the building and proceed to a safe distance away from the building and away from
    the main driveway area.
  • If the fire is blocking your exit from your unit, or you need assistance, go to your lanai
and close the sliding doors.  The fire rescue team will come to your aide.

In the event of a fire in your individual unit:
  • Call 911
  • A fire extinguisher should be used ONLY if the fire is extremely small (such as a pan on
the stove).  Fire extinguishers are located in the hallways on each floor.
  • Exit your unit immediately.
  • Go to the nearest stairway.
  • Pull the manual alarm to signal a fire emergency.

  • Make sure you have an adequate supply of potable water and non-perishable food
items for several days.  You should also have emergency lights and batteries, a battery
powered radio, a first aid kit with a supply of any prescription medications, personal
hygiene supplies and any other items that may be considered necessary for your
    comfort.

  • Be sure your car’s gas tank is filled.  Have a plan as to where you would go during the
storm in the event the building must be evacuated.

  • Remove all loose items including furniture and plants from your balconies and place
    them inside the building.

  • Keep your radio tuned to the local station for the latest weather service advisories as
well as special instructions from local government.

HURRICANE WARNING – Issued by the National Hurricane Center when sustained winds of
74 MPH or higher are expected in a specific coastal area in 24 hours or less.  When a Warning
is issued, all precautions should be taken immediately.

  • Immediately check all windows and sliding glass doors to make sure they are securely
    closed and locked.

  • Close and secure hurricane shutters.

  • Close all draperies, shades and blinds.

  • Move all items necessary for survival/comfort to a convenient area in your residence.

  • Remain in contact with informational sources.

When the order to “Evacuate” has been issued:

and have gathered all the necessary items needed to take with you.

  • Disconnect all electricity at the circuit breaker panel.

  • Close and lock your door and evacuate as quickly as possible using the designated
    evacuation route.

Pets are not permitted in most Emergency Shelters.

    water and medication supplies.

  • If going to a shelter, motel or hotel, be sure that they allow pets.
